Home / People / Dr. Oscar Gonzalez Dr. Oscar Gonzalez Assistant Professor of Computer Science Dr. Gonzalez is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at 91茄子, where he serves as the faculty lead for the Cybersecurity Program. Since joining the Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences in 2023, he has taught a wide range of Computer Science and Cybersecurity courses, from foundational programming and computer technology concepts to advanced cybersecurity topics. His career in higher education teaching began in 2001, giving him more than two decades of experience in college-level instruction.In addition to his academic career, Dr. Gonzalez has about ten years of professional experience in the banking industry. This industry background provides valuable real-world perspectives that he integrates into his teaching and cybersecurity curriculum.Dr. Gonzalez has been actively involved in cybersecurity since 2014, when he served as a Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) for the National Science Foundation-funded Advanced Cybersecurity Education (ACE) Consortium, representing the state of North Carolina, while serving as the Cyber Crime Program Lead at South Piedmont Community College in Monroe, North Carolina. Through this role, he contributed to advancing cybersecurity education and workforce development across the state.He earned a Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) in Information Technology from Middle Georgia State University. His doctoral research, Quantum-Resistant Encryption: A Quantitative Analysis of Organizational Cybersecurity Preparedness, examined organizational readiness for the transition to post-quantum cryptography. He also holds a Master of Science in Management Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Florida Atlantic University.Dr. Gonzalez’s professional interests include cybersecurity, emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, and preparing the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. Outside of academia, he enjoys spending time with his family and dog, traveling, participating in outdoor activities, and attending church.
