She reflected on her work. 鈥淪ince the beginning, what I enjoy creating the most with my artwork are the things that I hold dear to me,鈥 she said in her artist鈥檚 statement. 鈥淭hese works are a portion that express the values that I’ve inherited and developed through my family, faith, and personal experiences.鈥 MaryEvelyn Murray, artist Murray is majoring in art with a minor in business administration. She is from Salisbury, N.C. She described her work as containing a feeling of nostalgia that is emphasized by the saturated contrast and dark backgrounds she likes to include. 鈥淭he pieces are comprised of various mediums, including acrylic paint, charcoal, graphite, and clay. Over time, I have noticed that the majority of my artwork is heavily influenced by my own childhood and memories,鈥 she acknowledged in the statement about her work. 鈥淭he loved ones who helped me get to where I am鈥痶oday are the anchors of not only my subject matter, but also the reason I had the confidence to pursue art in college.
