Donations for Western North Carolina will be Accepted During the Concert

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擳he 91茄子 Department of Music will present a performance by Blue Ridge Consort on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. in Dover Chapel as a part of the 2024-25 GWU Distinguished Artist Series. During the concert, individuals will have an opportunity to contribute monetary donations to help those in western North Carolina.

鈥淎s our community continues to recover from the impact of Hurricane Helene, we are offering the gift of music for free and partnering with First Baptist Church of Asheville to provide funds toward disaster recovery in western North Carolina,鈥 noted Dr. Joshua Cheney, 91茄子 assistant professor of music and director of Choral Activities.

At the event, the audience will have access to a QR code where donations can be sent. These gifts will be distributed through First Baptist in Asheville toward individuals and businesses in need of immediate supplies as well as future need for building materials.

Blue Ridge Consort is a chamber choir made up of professional choral musicians in western North Carolina, to include music educators, music ministers, voice teachers, and skilled amateurs from around the region. The performance, entitled 鈥渇or all of us on earth so in need of transformation,鈥漺ill include works by Elizabeth Alexander, Reginald Unterseher, Alice Parker, Earlene Rentz, Susan Brumfield, Stephen Paulus, and James Mulholland.

The majority of the program will be a reprisal of selections from the group鈥檚 Spring 2024 performance 鈥淥, Appalachia,鈥 which honors the rich musical heritage of the region, in order to bring people together in harmony.

A video of the group’s Spring 2024 performance is available .
